The Norman Ballet Company offers young dancers in the area the opportunity to perform in a professional setting--from demanding choreography and rehearsal ethics to the lighting, scenery and costumes. Since 1984, the NBC has staged at least one full-length production per year under the guidance of Marjorie Kovich, Artistic Director of the Norman Ballet Company. For major productions, the Norman Ballet Company brings in guest artists, giving young dancers the opportunity to learn directly from working professionals.

In addition to creating a professional setting for young dancers, the Norman Ballet Company provides students the unique opportunity to receive training in stage makeup, rehearsal procedures, back stage etiquette and more from world-class teachers. The Norman Ballet Company also provides scholarships for advanced study at professional programs nationwide.

The dancers are not the only people who benefit from these productions. The Norman Ballet Company enhances the cultural life of Norman through its presentations, bringing out-of-town visitors to Norman and employing local artists who support our community. The NBC also regularly performs for the Norman Public Schools, and since 1985, over 15,000 fourth graders have come to the Sooner Theater for performances. Even more, guests from Norman’s social service agencies are at performances as well.

If you are interested in joining the Norman Ballet Company, auditions for members are advertised throughout central Oklahoma. To audition for the Company, dancers must be at least 13 years of age with at least two years of ballet training. Apprentice members must be at least 12 years or over, and children’s roles are available for children 7 years or older. Character roles are also available for local actors and stage performers to enhance the productions.
